Following reports that over 289 Highers and Advanced Highers classes have been cut in Scottish schools since the SNP were elected in 2007, Scottish Labour’s schools spokesperson Ken Macintosh MSP said:
“The point about the new curriculum in Scottish schools is that it is meant to open up choices, but here we see choices being shut down.
“It must never be the case that getting a broad education depends on which part of Scotland you live in.
“Courses being on this scale means that budgets are being cut and our schools are not being funded properly. The SNP are actually closing down opportunities for young Scots.
“This is yet more evidence that the beleaguered education minister Fiona Hyslop is failing to show the necessary leadership.”
